It’s well-padded at the front and the back, and there’s a false bottom to absorb impacts from setting the bag down on a surface. As a nice little bonus, there’s also a tablet sleeve inside in case you’re also traveling with an extra device. We noted in our review of the 45-liter version that the side handles felt unbalanced at times; that’s not the case with this one, though. Don’t get us wrong, this sternum strap gets the job done in aiding carrying comfort. It has aluminum hooks on either end of the strap, which in turn attaches to rails on the shoulder straps.

Wrapping up the rest of the materials on the Everyday Backpack 30L (V2), you’ll find aluminum hardware on places like the sternum strap and shoulder strap adjusters. There’s also some nubuck leather on the handle and other design accents. Finally, Hypalon is used on the zipper pulls and reinforcement areas like the back of the strap. The main fabric on the backpack is a 400D double-poly coated, DWR-impregnated nylon canvas. The fabric’s ripstop qualities make it more durable, while the DWR coating helps with weather-resistance and gives it a slightly more rubbery feel.

It’s a super-minor detail, but still surprising given all the other design considerations and attention to detail going on with this bag. Overall, we believe the harness system on the Peak Design Everyday Backpack 30L (V2) is a big improvement on the original—especially when it comes to the straps. Still, this isn’t our favorite harness system that we’ve ever tested. As per usual with Peak Design, there’s a lot of external components hidden in a sleek package. One tradeoff with this clamshell opening is that you need to have the bag laid down to open it.
Peak Design Everyday Backpack V2 30L special features
Heavy packers could use this bag for a weekend away, while light packers likely could make this bag work for a week away. The Peak Design Travel Backpack 30L offers a stylish and durable solution that is the perfect companion on your next adventure. Perfect for storage and organization, the Peak Design Travel Backpack 30L is ideal for city breaks, outdoor adventures, and vacations. If you’re worried about the sizing of the computer pocket, here are the measurements you need. Aluminum hardware adds a premium touch and boosts the overall sturdiness of the bag. The Anchor Link key tether will keep your keys safely attached to the bag, which is icing on the (canvas) cake.
Now, a drain hole is a nice feature, but we’re surprised that there’s no eyelet or additional reinforcement here. With this attachment point, the new hip belt should be more functional and comfortable to use. Although we haven’t tested it yet, the way it’s structured makes a lot more sense than what Peak Design had going in V1.
Everyday Backpack
We dig that these are see-through mesh because it means everything inside of them is easily visible. These could be great for tech accessories, but they’re located in a tricky spot. Once they’re buried behind packing cubes and other gear, they’re pretty much inaccessible; not ideal if you have your charger back there and you’re sitting at just 5% battery level. A more practical role for them would be as built-in toiletry pouches for when you’re already unpacked at your hotel room or as security pockets for important travel documents. There’s also an optional hip belt if you need a more secure way to carry the bag. Underneath the main back panel, there’s a small pass-through that’s lined with loop and hook fasteners.

The weatherproof #10 UltraZip can withstand decades of use thanks to its proprietary abrasion-resistant thread. Meets international carry-on size requirements in expanded (33L) and compressed (27L) form. All packed within a sleek, weatherproof 100% recycled 400D nylon canvas shell with 900D bottom liner. When we first took a look at Peak Design’s 45-liter Travel Backpack, we noted that it was well-executed with innovative features. It was by no means perfect, with some concerns regarding the Zoom zippers, sternum strap, and side handles. Nonetheless, it’s still a travel bag that’s pleasant to use whether you’re lugging camera gear, clothes, or tech goodies for that digital nomad lifestyle.
Like most travel backpacks, Peak Design’s also has a luggage pass-through on the back panel. Note that this is a vertical-style pass-through, which means that the Travel Backpack will sit horizontally on your rolling luggage. This can negatively impact the balance depending on how you loaded the pack.
Inside The Pack
Before we forget, we also appreciate the tiny bit of fabric at the tips of the padded portion of the shoulder straps that shrouds the aluminum hardware. It’s a particularly easy-to-miss feature, but we feel they’re worth mentioning since they add more protection for the aluminum. The very ends of the straps are even stitched into triangular tips, so they’re easier to re-thread through the aluminum hardware.
You’ll also get two other lash straps included in the side pockets on the interior of the bag. The front lash straps can be used to attach something like a jacket, and the bottom ones for something like a tripod. These detachable straps are an effective way to keep a minimal and clean look on the outside, while still adding some additional carry functionality to the bag should you choose to use it. Finally, the shoulder straps on the Peak Design Everyday Backpack 30L (V2) have magnets in them. This backpack features Peak Design’s proprietary UltraZips, which they developed with Zoom Zippers. These UltraZips not only look great (those beveled edges!) but are smooth to operate.

Using this bag for travel depends on your style and how much you want to bring along with you. Our friend Jon, who we interviewed over in the Pack Hacker Travel Styles section, has used the original Everyday Backpack 30L as a one-bag travel backpack long-term—and it’s worked great for him. There may be a way to do this integrated with the bag, but, at the time of this review, we haven’t been able to spot it.
Unique MagLatch hardware provides lightning fast top access, with dual side access via two weatherproof UltraZips. Our family-owned business has a seasoned staff with an unmatched expertise in helping builders and homeowners find house plans that match their needs and budgets. They made the shoulder straps with a combination of padding and webbing to help you can carry the backpack comfortably for extended periods of time. Peak Design crafts their backpack from high-quality materials that ensure its durability and weather resistance. The main fabric used is 400D nylon, which provides strength and resistance to abrasions.
The Travel Backpack 30L is a bit on the conservative side when it comes to capacity, however that’s just one of the many aspects that makes a travel backpack a travel backpack. We’re skeptical about Zoom zippers since we have experience with them breaking. However, Peak Design says they’ve developed a close working relationship with Zoom for custom-made zippers and insist that they meet their standards. That said, we’re happy to report that none have jammed or broken in our testing so far. They may show very slight non-functional cosmetic wear, but work (and often look) as good as new. Cosmetic wear may include scratched hardware and zippers, scuffed fabric, and other surface abrasions indicative of previous use.
They glide around the corners of this pack effortlessly—and that’s not something we can say for a lot of bags. The Travel Backpack wears as fluently as we expect, that is to say very comfortably. Most of the back panel is made up of a floating island that forms the spine. It helps keep things nice and cool by raising the backpack just a bit away from your back, but it also allows you to stow the shoulder straps away neatly and easily behind the flaps. An iconic, award-winning pack for everyday and photo carry, the newly revamped Everyday Backpack is built around access, organization, expansion, and protection.
